Who is The Maven?
The Maven is one of the Atlas pinnacle bosses in Path of Exile. She is an Eldritch entity fascinated by powerful combatants and collects memories of encounters she witnesses across the Atlas.
Her progression begins with Maven witnessing map bosses. Once enough bosses have been witnessed, Invitations allow them to be fought together in The Maven's Crucible. Eventually, the player can obtain The Maven's Writ and enter her arena.
The encounter is particularly known for its Memory Game mechanic, where the player must reproduce a sequence of safe areas while avoiding the expanding hazards in the arena.

Encounter mechanics
Memory Game
Maven creates a sequence of illuminated areas. Remember the order and step on the corresponding sections when the sequence is repeated.
Laser beams
Rotating beams cross the arena and can deal significant elemental damage. Positioning is important throughout the encounter.
Cascade of Pain
Maven launches a sequence of projectiles across the arena. The attack becomes more dangerous in the Uber encounter.
Volatile orbs
Maven creates volatile effects that chase the player before exploding. Avoiding them is particularly important during movement-heavy phases.
Nucleus
The Maven fights together with the Nucleus of the Maven, which remains active during the encounter and contributes additional hazards.
Uber changes
Uber Maven has faster Memory Game progression, additional projectiles, persistent Gravity Wells and significantly increased encounter difficulty.
Before entering
Maven deals heavy elemental damage and the encounter contains several mechanics that punish poor positioning. Capped elemental resistances are generally expected.
Reliable recovery and enough damage to shorten the encounter are particularly valuable because several mechanics can become progressively harder to manage.
